Benjamin Smart is a co-founder of Atlanta Quest Indoor Percussion. He has been the Executive Director for the past 11 years as well as serving as visual director in Quest’s inaugural season.


Benjamin has over 15 years experience in the marching/performing arts as both a performer and instructor with such ensembles as the Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps, Georgia Southern Marching Pride, Sprayberry High School, North Cobb High School in Marietta, GA, and Drum Major for ALLIANCE Drum and Bugle Corps.


Benjamin Smart is a video production coordinator for Artisan Picture Works in Atlanta, GA, as well as, CEO for the non-profit organization – Georgia Alliance for Performing Arts Education.





Anthony Sears has been with Quest since 2002. First serving as a bass drum technician before becoming the CFO in 2005.


Anthony attended Georgia Southern University and received a degree in Criminal Justice. During his time there he was a performing member of the Southern Pride Marching and Indoor Drumlines. After college Anthony attended John Marshall Law School in Atlanta Ga and worked for Homeland Security.


He lives in Cobb County Ga. with his wife Reiko Sears and his two children, Jackson Sears and Annabelle Sears.







Andrew M. Rettig is returning to Atlanta Quest for his ninth year, 4th on staff, aging out in 2011. He is the executive assistant/ logistics for the fourth year at Atlanta Quest.


He earned a dual BA from the U of West Ga in Marketing and Management in 2011.


When away from Quest, he lives and works in Woodstock with his wife Alyssa and son Cooper.

Jacob Matthews began his marching arts career in 8th grade as a member of Atlanta Quest Independent Indoor Drumline. He was a member of the front ensemble in 2004 and 2005 and played tenors from 2007 until he aged out in 2012. He has performed with the DCA group Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps from 2007 to 2011 and 2014. During the 2010 and 2011 summers, he toured with Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps.


Jacob is from Marietta, GA where he attended Sprayberry High School and has since served as a tenor technician. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Management from Kennesaw State University and currently works in purchasing for a construction supply distributor.




Jeffrey W. Peterson manages all alumni relations through the Quest Legacy program.


He performed with AQ from 2007 to 2010. During this time, he also performed with ALLIANCE Drum & Bugle Corps from 2005-2008, 2010, & 2011. He left in 2009 to perform with Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps for his age out season. He previously taught ALLIANCE’s bass line in 2011 and recently became their operations director for the 2014 season.


He directs the Atlanta Quest Alumni Association while also assisting with drumline instruction at Sprayberry High School. He graduated from the University of West Georgia with a B.A. in English and the MFA program of Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY with a degree in Writing. He currently teaches English Composition at the University of West Georgia and mentors their English Education interns.
